Inside INdiana Business

INDIANAPOLIS - A popular brewery based in Bargersville is setting up shop in a historic building in downtown Indianapolis. Indy-based real estate firm Buckingham Companies says Taxman Brewing Co. will open a gastropub and beer garden in a former livery building next fall as part of the CityWay mixed-use development.

The brewery is expected to begin work on the mid-1800s building in March and says it plans to preserve as much of the existing building as possible. Buckingham says the gastropub will seat 130 people inside and up to another 200 outside on a 3,000-square-foot patio.

"Taxman adds a key ingrediant to the CityWay neighborhood, and the livery building will once again anchor the Delaware Street corridor. It's a great example of historic preservation and new development," said Ryan Gallmeyer, vice president of development for Buckingham. "Taxman will be a gathering place for locals and visitors alike and will certainly add to an already vibrant mix of retail tenants at CityWay."

The gatropub is part of the $135 million second phase of the CityWay developement. The project currently has a 13-story apartment tower under construction and recently opened the Franciscan ExpressCare CityWay health clinic.

When complete, the CityWay project will feature a total of 650 apartments and more than 100,000 square-feet of commercial space.
