A new neighborhood in downtown Indianapolis reached new heights Monday. A "topping off" ceremony was held at the CityWay complex as the final beam was placed on top of the new Alexander Hotel.

It's just one piece of the puzzle there. The planned neighborhood will also house luxury apartments, restaurants, grocery stores and a new YMCA.

Mayor Greg Ballard said projects like these are just the beginning for downtown.

"The urban landscape is dramatically changing in the city of Indianapolis, and we knew that this would happen with this particular project," said Ballard.

The first apartments are scheduled to open up in October with the 209 room Alexander Hotel following in December. The neighborhood will also feature extensive green space and energy and water efficient designs throughout.
