Nick Stephenson, Fund Controller, plays a key role inside and outside our organization. Not only does he keep busy managing the Fund’s accounting records, but he also spends time serving as a Board Member to Horizon House.
Why do you volunteer? I always get so much out of volunteering. I think it is important to help others who are less fortunate, and in the process, I get to meet new people, learn from others’ perspectives, and grow my own worldview.
Where do you volunteer? I serve on the board of Horizon House, supporting those experiencing homelessness in Indianapolis. I also love supporting organizations where my friends and colleagues are involved. I have an especially soft spot for underprivileged youth and previously spent 5 years on the board of Foster Success, a local nonprofit serving older foster youth as they age out of the foster care system and into adulthood.
What lessons have you learned from volunteering? There are so many great causes and areas of need in our community, and volunteering helps me see through others’ lenses. I have been fortunate to work closely with a couple organizations where I feel very compelled by the cause and energized to do my part to help others. I encourage everyone to find a cause which means a lot to you, get involved, and ask your friends and family (and me!) to join you.
