Perhaps it’s the striking artwork inside the guest suites that were commissioned exclusively for the hotel. Or maybe it’s the artfully folded toilet paper, the complimentary bicycles or the elite Plat 99 bar.

But the world’s largest travel site is mightily impressed with Downtown Indianapolis’ newest boutique hotel.

The Alexander was ranked No. 6 this week on a list of the top 10 new hotels in the United States, according TripAdvisor, which offers reviews and information on more than 2.7 million accommodations, restaurants and attractions worldwide.

The coup puts The Alexander alongside impressive company, joining hotels, such as the Refinery Hotel in New York City and Zero George Street in Charleston, S.C.

Opened in January, The Alexander is part of CityWay, a 14‐acre development at Delaware and South streets.

The hotels that made the cut were identified as ones that make a “lasting impression,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer of TripAdvisor, which operates in 34 countries.

Specifically, they received rave reviews from guests and travelers, said Julie Cassetina, a spokeswoman for the site.

Among the reviews the Alexander received, according to Cassetina, included: “Truly a gem in the heart of the Midwest” and “What an amazing experience. You don’t have to be an art enthusiast to appreciate.”
